George J. Pfeiffer, M.S.E., FAWHP, is the founder and president of The WorkCare Group, Inc. (WCG). He draws from more than three decades of experience in the employee health promotion field to provide consulting and program development services to employer groups.

From 1974 to 1984, Pfeiffer was manager of the award-winning health management program at Xerox Corporation, which was the first Fortune 500 company to implement a mass-communications health promotion program combined with an employee lay leadership network in over 200 work locations.

From 1984 to 1991, Pfeiffer was co-founder and Vice President of The Travelers Center for Corporate Health Promotion, where he managed product development and strategic planning. He was responsible for developing and integrating Employee Support Services (e.g., health communications, employee assistance programs, medical self-care and telephonic nurse/counseling services) to over 8,000 organizations under The Travelers Managed Care initiatives.

Prior to founding WCG, Pfeiffer was President of Kelly Communications, Inc., Charlottesville, VA, where he oversaw the development of leading employee health publications such as HealthAction with a distribution of over one million readers.

A recipient of numerous awards, Pfeiffer was named one of 10 Healthy American Fitness Leaders in 1984 by the U.S. Jaycees and the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports for his contributions in worksite health promotion. In 1994, he was recipient of the Distinguished Leadership and Service Award by the Association for Worksite Health Promotion. In 2005, Pfeiffer was recognized by the National Wellness Association for his lifetime contributions to worksite wellness. In 2007, he was honored as the first Diplomat of the Medical Wellness Association. In addition, Pfeiffer is a member of the SUNY Cortland “C-Club Hall of Fame.”

Pfeiffer has also been recognized by professional organizations, such as the American Marketing Association, the International Association of Business Communicators, and the Consumers Health Publishers Association, for his award-winning communications.

A founding member, fellow, and former president of the Association of Worksite Health Promotion (AWHP), Pfeiffer is popular on the lecture circuit and has given keynote speeches and seminars internationally. He was formerly senior editor for Worksite Health, the professional journal for AWHP.

Currently, Pfeiffer serves on the Board of Directors for the National Wellness Institute and the International Association for Worksite Health Promotion (IAWHP). He is currently Senior Editor of IAWHP's Worksite Health International.

Throughout his career, Pfeiffer has served as a consultant to such organizations as UAW-GM, Applied Materials, PSE&G, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, the University of North Carolina, Union Pacific Railroad, G.D. Searle, GlaxoSmithKline, Mobil Corporation, National Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association, the University of Michigan, the National YMCA, Xerox, The Travelers, IBM, General Electric, Honeywell, and the Partnership for Prevention.

Pfeiffer has been cited in such national publications as US Today, New York Times, Business Week, and Fortune.

Pfeiffer is the author of Taking Care of Today and Tomorrow: A Resource Guide for Health, Aging, and Long-Term Care; Caregiving and You: A Resource Guide for Long-Term Care; INFORMED: An Introduction to Medical Self-Care and Staying Well, Informed AdvantAGE: A Resource Guide for Healthy Aging, and WorkCare: A Resource Guide for the Working Person. He is also a contributing author to both editions of ACSM's Worksite Health Promotion Manual.

Pfeiffer lives with his wife Michaela outside of Charlottesville, VA.
